Week 1 homework menu 9/11/12

Hi everyone!
Here is the homework menu based on the work we have done in class. Remember, you don't have to do them all, the children can choose 1 or more pieces to do.

  • Write a Bonfire Night themed acrostic poem.
  • Make a 3D firework or bonfire.
  • Make a list of objects in your house and measure the length of them.
  • Make a fact-file about the Gunpowder Plot.
         Happy homework!

Podcastling

Get ready children and parents of 2RW..... we are going to be creating podcasts this week!

Podcasting is a wonderful way of allowing children to share their work and experiences over the Internet.

What is a podcast?
A podcast is like a radio show. However, instead of being broadcast live, a podcast is recorded and then distributed over the internet, so that you can listen to it whenever you please. There are thousands of podcasts available, ranging from general interest, entertainment shows to those which focus on specific topics (e.g. computers / music / education).

How do I listen?
You can listen to podcasts directly on the websites of those people who make them.

How do children benefit from making a podcast?
  • It gives them a potential audience for their work.
  • It's great for developing literacy skills (writing scripts, setting up interviews etc), allows children to develop and practise their speaking and listening skills, and they also learn some amazing ICT skills.
  • Podcasts can be interactive, and the audience can be invited to send their comments, giving valuable feedback to the children about their work.
  • It is also great for developing teamwork skills. The children always work together really well, as they're always keen to make a great show.
What can I put in a podcast?
  • School news - a great way of telling children and parents what is going on at our school.
  • Children's work - children love sharing their work.
  • School songs.
  • Interviews - with members of staff, children, members of the community, and visitors to school
  • Jokes.
I have found a website full of podcasts for you to listen to.... its CBeebies Radio! You can download the podcasts or subscribe for free! The following link is a story called Driver Dan's Story Train.

Measuring in Numeracy

This week we have been measuring in centimetres and metres.

Movember

We are supporting Movember in our school by having a competition to see which class can raise the most money!

Please help us raise money for men's cancer charities by sending in some money with your child. Every penny counts!

What is Movember?
The men in our school have decided to grow a moustache to help raise money for cancer charities that support men.
The class that raises the most money will get to nominate someone to shave the moustaches off!

Chloe's Homework

Have you heard of a QR code? It is a barcode that creates a link that can be scanned by a mobile phone with a camera or a smartphone.
Download the RedLaser app, scan the barcode and hear what I have to say about Chloe's homework.
This was only a test so I have only recorded one sentence!
